Lurkers and Jehovah's Witnesses- The WT Lied to you about " Generation "
by flipper ini know this has been re-hashed many times here.
in great detail with quotes from former watchtower articles, etc.
i'm going to cut to the chase and just make this brief and direct.

With regard to the 1914 generation, imo it is less about the lie (ie, whether the WT lied or was mistaken) than it is about false prophecy and telling untruths in the name of God (Ezekiel 13:8 notwithstanding - great scripture Billy).
The Watchtower Society told the world (via millions of Watchtower and Awake! magazines) for decades that the True God (whom they claim to represent as "his organization" and his only "channel of communication") "promised" something He did not promise. Doesn't matter if they "lied" or made a "mistake". They painted God as a liar and that's what matters in this case:
>> Most important, this magazine builds confidence in the Creator's promise of a peaceful and secure new world before the generation that saw the events of 1914 passes away. –Awake!, January 1, 1995, page 2.
>> Jehovah's prophetic word through Christ Jesus is: "This generation [of 1914] will by no means pass away until all things occur." (Luke 21:32) And Jehovah, who is the source of inspired and unfailing prophecy, will bring about the fulfillment... –The Watchtower, May 15, 1984, page 6-7.
On a related note, they definitely DID lie when they said they never presumed to "originate predictions in the name of Jehovah":
>> Jehovah's Witnesses, in their eagerness for Jesus' second coming, have suggested dates that turned out to be incorrect. Never in these instances, however, did they presume to originate predictions 'in the name of Jehovah'. Never did they say 'These are the words of Jehovah'. –Awake!, March 22, 1993, page 4.
Peace.

: "That's like saying that elders aren't publishers, isn't it?"
Um. Perhaps to you. But... no... it's not.
Let's go simpler this time.
God NEVER said to any angel, "sit at my right hand until I make your enemies into a footstool for you". (Heb 1:13)
God DID say to Jesus, "sit at my right hand until I make your enemies into a footstool for you". (Mt 22:42-44)
Even simpler:
God NEVER said "X" to any angel. God DID say "X" to Jesus.
This (biblical) assertion can only be true if Jesus is NOT an angel.
It's called logic. You should try it sometime.
Peace.

The Bible clearly refutes the idea of Jesus being Michael or any other angel:
Hebrews 1:5 - God has never said to any of the angels, "You are my Son, because today I have become your Father!" Neither has God said to any of them, "I will be his Father, and he will be my Son!"
Hebrews 1:13 - God never said to any of the angels, "Sit at my right side until I make your enemies into a footstool for you!"
God never said these things to any of the angels, but he did say them to Jesus. (Ps 2:7; Heb 5:5; Ps 110:1; Mt 22:42-44) It follows that, scripturally, Jesus cannot be an angel.
The fact is that Jehovah's Witnesses enjoy the pretense of believing/accepting the bible but it's all just part of the act. JWs follow the Watchtower - not the Bible. In fact, they are more followers of men than any religionists I have ever met. The nature/identify of Jesus is just another example. The fact that Hebrews chapter one COMPLETELY PRECLUDES the possibility that Jesus is an angel is irrelevant to them because they DON'T BELIEVE THE BIBLE. They will continue to believe that Jesus is an angel UNTIL THEIR WATCHTOWER CULT LEADERS TELL THEM OTHERWISE. Only then will they accept Hebrews chapter 1.
Peace.

The WTS and Frequent Liar Points
by Hopscotch ini have read on here of the frequent flyer points racked up by bethelites etc on wts business and it made me think of this.. .
frequent liar points.
the wts has told so many lies to its members, the public and the media that if there were points accumulated for frequent lies then surely they would have a huge tally of them.. .

It's fortunate that JWs are the "happiest people on earth" TM . Othwerwise they might have need of a "worldly psychiatrist" and we know the WT position on that:
"for a Christian to go to a worldly psychiatrist is an admission of defeat, it amounts to 'going down to Egypt for help.'" (Awake! Mar 8 1960 p27)

The Watchtower is not the instrument of any man...
No man's opinion is expressed in The Watchtower.

"We need to examine, not only what we personally believe, but also what is taught by any religious organization with which we may be associated." –The Truth That Leads To Eternal Life, 1981, page 13.
"The book then raises the logical question. 'Is it reasonable to assume that the religion imposed at one's birth is necessarily the whole truth?' Thus, every person is encouraged to examine other religions with an open mind." –The Watchtower, April 1, 1991, page 17.
"Yes, the international society of Jehovah's Witnesses is living proof that hatred can be abolished. ... It is a foreglimpse of a worldwide program to eliminate hatred and it's causes." –The Watchtower, June 15, 1995, page 8.
"Jehovah's Witnesses, in their eagerness for Jesus' second coming, have suggested dates that turned out to be incorrect. Never in these instances, however, did they presume to originate predictions 'in the name of Jehovah'. Never did they say 'These are the words of Jehovah'." –Awake!, March 22, 1993, page 4.
"Why, then, do the nations not realize and accept the approach of this climax of judgment? It is because they have not heeded the world-wide advertising of Christ's return and his second presence. Since long before World War I Jehovah's witnesses pointed to 1914 as the time for this great event to occur." –The Watchtower, June 15, 1954, page 370.
"As far back as 1879, the publishers of this magazine pointed to the year 1914 as a marked year in Bible prophecy, as the starting point for what the Bible calls "'the time the end.'" –Awake!, October 8, 1972, page 15.
"No creature or organization on earth can truly presume to sit as the supreme tribunal of interpretation of the holy bible." –The Watchtower, July 1, 1943, page 202.

It seems to me that if God made (and abandoned) this "promise" then he is a LIAR. His word is without value and he is not worthy of our trust or devotion.
It also occurs to me that if God did not make this "promise" then those who made such a claim are FALSE PROPHETS by the definition of their God himself. (Deut 18) Their word is without value and they are not worthy of our trust or devotion.
Either way, the WT religion has lost all credibility. Its God is a liar or its leaders are false prophets. Pick your poison.
Deut 18:20-22: But a prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded him to say, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods, must be put to death." You may say to yourselves, "How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the LORD?" If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the LORD does not take place or come true, that is a message the LORD has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him.

Cabasilas, thanks for all your hard work in making these available.
A few more gems from the '68 Awake:
"For example, there is the cat family with its many different species, including tigers, panthers, leopards, and so forth. However, it seems likely that many species of cats could have descended from an original pair of cats that emerged from the ark. It is similar with the dog family, which includes such a vast array of domesticated dogs, as well as the related wolves, jackals, coyotes, and so forth. They, too, could have descended from an original pair."
"True, there have been those in times past who predicted an "end to the world," even announcing a specific date... Yet, nothing happened. The "end" did not come. They were guilty of false prophesying."
"There are those, such as the Christian witnesses of Jehovah, who consider all transplants between humans as cannibalism."
"Even if we presume that youngsters 15 years of age would be perceptive enough to realize the import of what happened in 1914, it would still make the youngest of "this generation" nearly 70 years old today."
"only a few years, at most, remain before the corrupt system of things dominating the earth is destroyed by God."
Undercover: LOL! Best... cover... ever!
